2017 CPSA Annual Conference

Ryerson University
Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences: May 27 - June 2
The CPSA conference dates within Congress are Tuesday, May 30 to Thursday, June 1.

Programme Co-chairs: Dietlind Stolle (McGill) and Elisabeth Gidengil (McGill)
Local Arrangements Coordinator: Neil Thomlinson (Ryerson)

2017 Registration

A) Conference Registration

The CPSA conference is held within the Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences (Congress). The dates of the Congress are May 27 - June 2, 2017. The CPSA conference dates are May 30-31 and June 1, 2017. Congress registration is now open. Attendees are able to register by mail or on-line via the Congress website at http://congress2017.ca/. The early registration date is 31 March 2017. CPSA is association #48 within the Congress.

All attendees must register for the Congress AND the CPSA conference. Anyone who does not causes a loss of revenue for the CPSA and is responsible for any increase in Congress registration fees. By not paying, participants only serve to withhold much needed support for the CPSA and penalize their paying colleagues with higher fees.

Paper, poster and 3MT presenters are required to pay their registration fees by the early registration deadline or see their presentation removed from the programme by Friday, April 7, 2017.

In order to attend the CPSA conference, all attendees are required to pay two fees:

1) Congress Registration Fee:

  • $70 + 13% HST = $79.10 - students, retired and unwaged attendees registering by March 31;
  • $180 + 13% HST = $203.40 - regular attendees registering by March 31;

  • $90 + 13% HST = $101.70 - students, retired and unwaged attendees registering as of April 1;
  • $215 + 13% HST = $242.95 - regular attendees registering as of April 1;

2) CPSA (association #48) Registration Fee:

  • $40 - students, retired and unwaged members;
  • $105 - regular members;
  • $165 - non-members.

Please note the following:

  • CPSA registration fees are GST/HST exempt.
  • The Congress does NOT collect association membership fees. Membership fees are NOT included in any of the above fees. You can pay your membership fees on line at https://www.cpsa-acsp.ca/membership.php.
  • In order to add any of the options below to your registration form, you must have selected a CPSA conference fee.
  • Once you have submitted your registration, you will not be able to access your file to add any of the options listed below. These will need to be added by mail or fax so please consider carefully all your options before completing your registration form.

B) Conference Registration ‐ Options: CPSA President's Dinner - CPSA Cabaret ‐ Printed copy of the CPSA conference programme

1) CPSA President's Dinner (optional)

Dim Sum King (421 Dundas Street West, Toronto)
www.dimsumkingchinese.ca/
Wednesday, May 31, 2017
Cocktails available at 6:00 pm; Dinner from 6:30 pm - 10:30 pm

As CPSA President, I invite all conference delegates to join me for this year’s President’s Dinner, which will be a traditional 12-course Chinese banquet in Chinatown. In keeping with the 2017 conference programming of both Congress and the CPSA on Confederation @ 150, this unique location invites consideration of the important role of Chinese Canadians in the history and ongoing evolution of Toronto and Canada. Cocktails will be available from 6:00 pm, and the first course of the dinner will be served shortly after 6:30 pm.

For faculty supervisors in a position to do so, I encourage them to bring their students to the dinner as their guests. This is a great opportunity to meet other political scientists! Spouses, partners, friends and other guests of delegates are also invited.

The President’s Dinner is also when we announce the winners of our prizes and honour their achievements. We hope all members of the prize juries and shortlisted colleagues will be present. The five new members of the CPSA Board of Directors and the new President and Vice-President will also be announced and introduced at the dinner. Join us in welcoming them to the Board!

Attendees can pay for their tickets on the Congress registration form under "Other Fees" until Saturday, May 20, 2017. After this date, attendees are asked to contact the CPSA Secretariat. There will be no on-site ticket sales.

The tickets prices are:

  • $38 - students, retired and unwaged attendees;
  • $50 - all other attendees.

Electronic tickets will be e-mailed on Tuesday, May 23, 2017. If you have dietary restrictions, please inform the CPSA Secretariat.

I look forward to greeting you all at Dim Sum King, and to sharing an evening in one of North America's largest Chinatowns!

Yasmeen Abu-Laban, CPSA President

2) CPSA Cabaret (optional)

New this year, join us for the CPSA Cabaret, a queer-friendly event supported by the Women's Caucus and open to all members of the association. This casual mixer will feature drinks, snacks, entertainment, and good company. The cabaret will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at 8 pm at the Ryerson Student Campus Centre, immediately following the Departmental Reception.

Attendees can pay for their ticket on the Congress registration form under "Other Fees" until Saturday, May 20, 2017. After this date, attendees are asked to contact the CPSA secretariat.
