MA: Concordia offers a Master’s in Public Policy and Public Administration, with internship, thesis, or extended classes options. Students are free to specialize in other subfields of Political Science (Political Theory, International Relations, Canadian Politics and Government, and Comparative Politics). The MPPPA offers students a firm grounding in public policy and administration literature and case studies, and includes a paid or non-paid internship option (which usually takes place in Ottawa). A core element of the programme involves an understanding of the management processes through which policies are implemented in the public sector, and an awareness of the dynamic interdependence between public and private responsibilities. Students can also write a Master’s thesis in public policy or one of the other subfields, or complete a course-only option. Funding through TAships and bursaries is available.

PhD: The PhD in Political Science is completed by course work, two comprehensive examinations, dissertation proposal, and dissertation defense. The University strives to ensure that each doctoral student receives funding. Students take core courses in public policy and research methodology, but can specialize in any one of the following five subfields:

  • Comparative Politics
  • International Politics
  • Canadian Politics and Government
  • Political Theory
  • Public Policy and Administration
