Excerpt from jury report: In “Gatekeeping by Central and Local Party Actors”, Quinn Albaugh explores the role of party actors in controlling local nomination outcomes. Drawing on a rich and impressive multimethod data collection, the author methodically develops a new theoretical approach to understanding the role of central party actors in local nomination contests. The article makes an important contribution to our understanding of the party nomination process and lays out critical directions for future work on the topic.
