Excerpt from jury report: Based on interviews with aboriginal people elected to provincial legislatures and the federal Parliament, Koop and Carrière analyze how they negotiate the driving force behind their political commitment to the challenge of providing aboriginal representation in the country’s legislative institutions. Their original and innovative contribution provides a better understanding of how elected aboriginals intend to put forward an “aboriginal perspective” and defend “aboriginal interests” within institutions that are sometimes contested, find a balance between the multiple duties and responsibilities incumbent upon them, and promote their own aboriginal nationality.
