2022 CPSA Prize for Teaching Excellence

Jul 12, 2022 | CPSA Prize for Teaching Excellence, Prizes

Winner: Tracey Raney, Toronto Metropolitan University

Excerpt from jury report: Tracey Raney is an innovator in political science teaching. Along with former MP Peggy Nash, Raney co-created Ryerson’s ‘Women in the House’ program, an interdisciplinary, experiential course available for full credit to students who identify as women within the Faculty of Arts, for which she also extensively fundraises so that students can attend without financial barriers. Raney provides students with the academic foundation to “connect students with real-world problems and solutions in order to achieve a more equitable and inclusive democracy in Canada,” and she builds students’ leadership skills while doing so. Additionally, Raney co-authors with her students, providing valuable mentorship for students learning to navigate the peer-review process. Raney’s teaching shows a strong commitment to the improvement of university teaching and university learning.
