Ethnography and Political Opinion: Identity, Alienation and Anti-establishmentarianism in Rural Alberta, CJPS Vol 54:1, March 2021

Excerpt from jury report: In “Ethnography and Political Opinion”, Clark Banack explores the sources of identity and opinion in rural Alberta. Drawing on a rich ethnographic approach involving interviews over morning coffee in restaurants and coffee shops around the province, the author describes the central role that social identities play in fostering political grievance. This wonderfully written article makes a prescient contribution to understanding the social dynamics underlying rural opinion on immigrants and Indigenous Peoples in Canada.
